The Children
Director Vision
I live and work in Albania. Lately in my country have happened some serious events of sexual abuse to children. 3 cases of sexual abuse were discovered in only a month in different areas of Albania. This storys affected me a lot and made me think of all the pain that children carry with themselves.
The movie “The Children” is inspired by a true story in a village near Tirana. 2 Brother and a sister make a deal to kill their father. Its an extreme and horrible act but behind this is a truth and a horrible reason; the father sexually abused the oldest boy when he was only nine years old.
When they were brought to justice and they were asked they never told this truth. They decided to blame themselves and they were prisoned for many years and never told the truth only because they feared the judgement of public opinion. This is what touched me the most;
Their silence, the fear of judgment. The story is told by the point of view of the children. The camera is very near them, following their silence, fear and the pressure that they keep inside.
My message is very clear; no children should experience the abuse and their truth should be spoken, because when the truth is kept hidden the consequences might become very harsh
